At the age of 21, I rediscovered my childhood dream of writing and quit my medical studies to pursue philosophy. The academic world of philosophy has a special seat in my dreams. The ivory town, Castalia of Herman Hesse in 'The Glass Bead Game' reminded me of that world.
In philosophy, I found tranquillity and peace, driven out of the obfuscation of my own judgments, and understood myself better. Yet what I love most in Philosophy is its inclusion and unification of everything.
My research interests are centred around empathy and ethics. In the context of empathy, I concentrate on why the developmental account of mimicry is associated with experience. This is also the reason I decided to do my dissertation on Empathy, where I examined why emotional experience is vital in possessing empathy. Concerning ethics, I am interested in the links between the developmental account of mimicry and virtue development.
In addition, as a former medical student, I had the opportunity to get acquainted, among others, with Medical Psychology, Sociology, and Biochemistry. My prior acquaintance with some medical subjects, conjointly with my present degree, helped me give meaning and unify various abstract inputs.
Within my philosophical, and media culture studies, I improved my research and writing skills, being able to reach a Distinction, and being a candidate for the Dean’s Award during the second year. As to my final year, I graduated with a First Honours Degree, with an overall of 76, having also gathered over 600 hours of extracurricular work, gaining the Go Herts Gold Award.
Some of the topics I studied throughout my degree include Aristotle's Metaphysics, Analytics, and Nicomachean Ethics, as well as Plato’s Republic. Greek being my mother tongue, enhanced my experience as I was able to compare the texts with the original treatises. In the module 'Research Methods in Media Communications', I conducted qualitative and quantitative research against the offensive part of free speech in contemporary media, defending politicians. On the other hand, in my module on ‘Representation and Identity in Contemporary Media’, I wrote about the importance of nation in identity politics, Orientalism, and the silencing of multiple voices in contemporary media, accusing power. Concurrently, my modules on metaphysics and philosophy of mind made me think of the world in a more unified way, discerning between different, universal schools of thought.
Having multiple inputs, alongside my own experience and ideas, I was philosophically ready to finish my book 'Μια σταγόνα Χάους' (A Drop of Chaos) in the Summer of 2020. In my book, I intended to convey the philosophical perspective of how it is possible to unite emotion with logic. This philosophical worldview is ‘completed’ with the naivety, or childhood, inherent in us. For the book and cover design, I utilised the Adobe skills I acquired from my media studies.
In September of 2021, I was enrolled at the University of Bristol, having gained the Think Big Scholarship of 20,000 pounds in the subject of philosophy. As a Think Big Scholar, I participated in seminars and gave a speech at the Think Big Development Event about productivity and efficiency—more particularly, I gave a speech about the importance of finding your own "WHY" in life as popularly initially designated by Simon Sinek.
Some of the topics I studied throughout my postgraduate degree include Philosophy of Physics, Philosophy of Mathematics, Philosophy of Psychology, Value Theory, & Epistemology and Metaphysics. In my dissertation, I got a grade of 77, getting the Annual (Joint) Student Dissertation Award, supporting a Nietzschean perspective on developmental self-consciousness by adopting Rosenthal's account after examining Kant's and Nietzsche's accounts of consciousness (Kant's A priority through his A and B deduction vs Nietzsche's time-bound universality.
From January 2023 to August 2023, I undertook a project with my company "Eternal Perspectives" of a poetry competition, in which we gathered over 400 poems from all over the world. The prize was the publication of an anthology with 28 poems. Throughout the process, I was the communications manager, where I created the personalized letters and the certificates, and was one of the judges. I also designed the interior layout design on InDesign and cooperated with a graphic designer for the cover.
I try to enrich my philosophical perspective by reading books. Two of my favourite books are those of Anna Karenina - I was amazed at Tolstoy’s descriptions of a daily family routine. It reminded me that philosophy can be found in simple people and be absent from the most powerful. Another book I like is ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens. I identified with the protagonist in her experience of the wildlife of solitude. Some other authors I currently highly appreciate are Yuval Noah Harari, Dostoyevsky, and Herman Hesse. The latter I would consider my favourite, having read his books in the original German language.
