Adopting rationality in terms of motivational factors could support the claim that Erotomania delusions are rational. However, the inability of deluded individuals to respond to evidence for an extended period casts doubt on this assertion. In this paper, I seek to find a suitable account for Erotomania delusions that explains their unresponsiveness to evidence as well as any rationality biases underlying the delusional process. As a result of examining Maher’s account of abnormal experience and finding that it cannot sufficiently explain unresponsiveness to evidence, I adopt the prediction-error-minimisation theory, which holds that the delusional process is based on the previous experiences and background of the deluded individual.
